It was reported that Marshal Li Chai-shum had been forbidden by the Hong Kong Government to express his political opinions in public (Kung Sheung Daily News of August 2). This was subsequently denied by Marshal

Li Chai-shum.

3. WORLD AFFAIRS.

There was some discussion over Outer Mongolian's application to join the United Nations.

It was considered by the Sing Pao (July 30) and the National Times (August 1) that even if China did not oppose the appli- cation, Outer Mongolia would be debarred as being an "aggressor" (the reference being to the "Sinkiang incident").

Comment on the conflict in Indonesia was uniformly sympathetic to the Indonesians as against the Dutch (National Times of July 29, Kung Sheung Daily News of July 29 and Hwa Shiang Pao of July 31).
